16U/18U Boys (Spring/Summer)

Our Spring/Summer Program will run February 21st through July 19th. This program is designed to teach all athletes the technical and tactical water polo skills needed to compete at the highest level of play. This program is highly competitive and challenging. Athletes in this program will compete in both regional and national-level tournaments, including National Jr. Olympics (July 16-19). All those who wish to compete at Jr. Olympics must first tryout for one of our competitive teams.

There is also an option to participate in SPRING POLO ONLY for all those who do not wish to participate in Jr. Olympics. After registration closes, athletes will be placed in either the “Black” or “Red” group and you’ll received a notification via email. All non-JO athletes will be placed in the RED practice group.

**Tryout Information for Jr. Olympic Teams**

All competitive program participants must participate in the spring tryout process in order to be consideration for selection on one of our National Jr. Olympic teams. Athletes must participate in a minimum of two (2) tryout dates. Athletes are welcome to participate in all three tryout dates. We will field two 18U teams and three (possibly four) 16U teams.

Thursday, February 17 – 7:30-9:00pm @ Granite Bay HS
Saturday, February 19 – 10:00-11:30am @ Granite Bay HS

16U BOYS TRYOUT DATES:
Tuesday, February 15 – 7:30-9:00pm @ Granite Bay HS
Thursday, February 17 – 6:00-7:30pm @ Granite Bay HS

Training groups/rosters will be announced on Sunday, February 20, 2022.

ATHLETE WHO DO NOT WISH TO PARTICIPATE IN JR. OLYMPICS WILL HAVE THE OPTION TO PLAY SPRING POLO ONLY AND/OR SUMMER POLO ONLY. ALL JR. OLYMPIC ATHLETES MUST PARTICIPATE IN SPRING & SUMMER POLO.

Practice Groups, Times, and Locations

We will divide the athletes into two practice groups in order to maximize our training. The “BLACK” group will consist of our 18U boys + 16U A. Our “RED” group will consist of all remaining 16U athletes. All athletes should bring the following to each practice: water polo suit, towel, sunscreen, water bottle, and workout shoes.

Tournament Dates and Locations

Futures Water Polo League (18U ‘A’ Team / 16U ‘A’ Team)
Our 18U Black and 16U Black teams will compete in the Futures Water Polo League (FWPL), which takes place in the Bay Area. Specific pool locations have not been announced. Here are the tournament dates:

Central Zone Spring Tournaments (18U B / 16U B / 16U C)
Our 18U Red, 16U Red, and 16U White teams will compete in the Central Zone tournaments, which are local (Sacramento/Roseville/Rocklin). Tournaments dates are TBA (likely on Sundays). We will post the dates here when they are announced.

Central Zone Jr. Olympic Qualifying Tournament (all 16U/18U teams)

Location: TBA
This tournament is required in order to qualify for National Junior Olympics (NJO). Please note, not all teams will qualify for NJO. Typically, our zone will qualify the top 10-12 teams from the qualifying tournament for NJO.

Santa Cruz Classic Tournament (18U B / 16U B / 16U C)
July 9 or 10 (one day)
Location: greater Santa Cruz area

National Junior Olympics (all qualified teams)
July 16-19
Location: Bay Area (San Jose)

Spring/Summer Program Cost & Payment

Our program fee is reflective of the operational costs associated with running a competitive water polo program (pool rental, coaches’ wages, equipment, admin fees, etc.).  The summer water polo program fee is TBA/athlete (payment arrangements must be made by 2nd week of program).  This program fee covers all practices and scrimmages, as well as a program t-shirt. Sibling discounts are available. Please note, if you have concerns about the fee, you want info about sibling discounts, or you wish to set-up a payment plan, please contact us at info@calrepublicsc.com.  We want to make sure every athlete has an opportunity to play!

USA Water Polo Membership

All participants must have a current membership with USA Water Polo for the 2021 calendar year and affiliated with California Republic SC (#26152). Athletes who wish to participate in Jr. Olympics must have a “gold” membership and also go through the USAWP age verification process. For those not participating in Jr. Olympics, a “silver” membership will do. Go to USA Water Polo for more information.
